Differences

Most of you know that my boys are very different. Where Sammy is outgoing and outspoken, Joshy is clingy and quiet. They are very different in their looks- blond and brunnette, dimples and no dimples, even their eyes, butts, and legs are completely different! So I thought I would show you the above two pictures- Josh at almost 18 months and Sam at almost 18 months. Josh weighing 26 pounds and almost 31 inches tall; Sam is almost 29 pounds and 32 inches tall.

18 Months - almost

Josh had his 18 months appointment on March 19. (He'll be 18 months on the 30th) and the appointment went....well, let's just say Joshy crying in nursery every week times 10! he just screamed when the nurse or doctor got near him. But, we did learn that he is 26 pounds. They said he was just below the 50th percentile in height, and just above it in weight. Short and chubby! But really, he is average. I talked ot the doctor too about his speech. Josh only says about 15 to 20 words, and when Sam was his age he was talking A LOT. But the doctor said 15 words was about right for an 18 month old and he said that we really didn't have anything to worry about, just give him time. He said if we really really wanted to have him evaluated we could take him to Ken O Shaw because they do evalutations for free. But he felt like it wasn't needed. wish was nice to hear! Basically, at our church there are four boys that were born in September of '05, one of them is a first born and he talks up a storm, the other three (including Josh) are all second borns and they hardly say anything! Of course, Josh is always crying in nursery....but Dr. Joseph said 18 months is the peak of stranger anxiety and not to worry about the anxiety (yet...) I took him to get his picture today--same thing. He screamed when the lady got anywhere near him....Sam on the other hand was great and took some awesome pictures! (Even though we weren't even going to take his picture...!) We'll just have to keep trying to take good pics at home!

Great weekend!

What a fun weekend! The Martin's came for a visit and we had a house full of boys! It was lots of fun, (especially when the kids were sleeping and we could play games...)Anyway, Saturday was really fun! Emily, Noah, and Seth met us all at the GArden so we could see the butterfly's and play in the children's area. Everyone had a great time..,of course, it is always fun to let 7 little boys run off energy! We tried to line all the boys up on the bridge for a picture...but it just didn't work. Hope you like these crazy pics! (I am hoping that someday one of us will have a little girl!)

Back Home

As some of you may know, we were in Woodstock (Canada) this past weekend for the funeral of cousin Andrew. Due to the funeral and visitation we spent a lot of time driving around Aylmer and Woodstock, and for the most part the roads were fine. However, this is what we arrived home to today! About a foot of snow! Kevin cleared a path so the boys and I could get into the house. Than he right away stared shoveling...I wasn't the only one who felt bad for him! Our neighbors, the Rodriguez's came out and offered the use of his snowblower. Kevin was very grateful- after such a long weekend, shoveling snow is not what he felt like doing!

TV on my Tivo! Vote for your favorite show

What is your favorite show?

Yea! New season of Amazing Race!!!! Thank goodness for my Tivo since we got home late last night =) Go Rob and AMber! Yes, i know a lot of you are sick of them, but come on- you have to admit that 1. They are GOOD competition and 2. They make the show interesting! Rob is funny! Finally, can we get rid of Mirna and Schmirna already??

Also a favorite of mine if anyone wants to discuss (we can always discuss it on facebook too!) is The Office, Survivor Fiji, and Heroes and How I Met your Mother is too too funny.

Spreading the Word

Mothering, Issue NO. 137, "Although it's unlikely these days that any layperson, let alone a health professional, would directly state that formula is healthier than breastmilk, we still collude a culture that promotes bottle feeding as "normal". As long as images of breastfeeding are over shadowed by images of bottles, and as long as formula feeding facts are misapplied to the breastfed baby, breastfeeding will continue to be seen as a luxery rather than as the obvious best choice for baby."

A few issues back, Mothering Magazine had a great article about how our society is bombarded with images of the bottle. It was a great article that discussed a very serious problem. Now, I am so bothered by all these bottle images! I scrapbook- and what is provided in the kit for babies- bottle stickers, what is on so many baby gift bags- bottles! What is in my childs nursery- a doll with a bottle! This is not what I want my children to learn- I don't want them to think that this is how babies are fed- that this is the norm. While many people may have to use the bottle, I feel strongly that our culture shouldn't make this seem like the "norm". I believe our culture should realize that breastfeeding is how babies are fed, but that we are lucky to have other options in case there are difficulties with the breast. I want my children to know that Breastfeeding is not only best, but natural and nothing to be ashamed of. Mothering Magazine had a contest for an international symbol of breastfeeding. This was the winner- I think it is great and believe that we all need to start using it! Now...if only I can get it onto stickers for my baby books!

Tagged for weirdness

I have been tagged by Bethany...which basically means I need to list 6 weird things about myself and then tag others to do the same. I find this a bit difficult only because I am not sure how to define weird....but here it goes:

1. Ever since I was young I have not been able to stand the sound of people eating cereal. Slurping, milk dribbling out, chewing with the mouth open, spoon clinking the bowl...I can't handle it!! Growing up I listed my brothers and dad as the worst cereal eaters; later in life it was my brother in law Nicholas. Now, it is my own son, Sam. He is the worst! But he also doesn't understand "chew with your mouth closed." I can usually get him to stop slurping by telling him to try to eat nice...but really, i just try to do other things like empty the dishwasher or wash some dishes to drown out the noise of his cereal slurping.

2. I am over the top organized and detail orientated. I see evreything in patterns; this is sort of hard to explain. But for example, I have a couple of collage picture frames that have slots for 9 or more photos. Now, I can't just slap any photo in there. No, my "order" needs to appear random. But I can't have like all pictures of Joshy on one side; I can't have all wedding photos on the top; andI certainly can't have an uneven amount of Sam and Josh pictures. No, it is organized to appear random.

3. I don't think I have ever in my life entered a Target store without buying something.

4. I don't understand why more people don't own TiVo. Now that I have one, I never ever watch live TV. I watch what I want when I have the time to watch it- after the kids are in bed, and of course NO COMMERCIALS! I think it should be on everyone's birthday and Christmas lists.

5. I am very competetive. I love to play games and the idea of playing "just for fun" is not something I would ever consider doing- what would be the point? Also, since I am no longer able to play competetive tennis it is one of the reason I became depressed after college.

6. I am anal about my kids' toys. I don't want to lose any and they always have to be picked up at the end of the day. YES I know they are just going to make a mess again, BUT they tend NOT to play with the toys that are already scattered on the ground. Instead, they play with the toys that are picked up--they play by dumping them out again.

Now I am suppose to "tag" other people, but since it is sort of like an e-mail forward...we will see if anyone does it! I will tag those friends of mine that have blogs or LiveJournals.... so: FieryJane, Sarah-bellum, and Kelly!

Outside fun

I do not like snow, cold, and all that. But, as a mom, I know I need to get my boys out there. So we bundled up and did some shoveling and snow soccer. See the picture of Josh just standing there and there is a little snow on his hat? He was just standing there getting used to it and Sam hit him on the head with a snowball!...

Ice Rink

11:00 at night and Kevin is so determined to make an ice rink. What dedication- he wants to teach Sam to skate so bad he is out there perfecting a back yard ice rink!
